Mr. Keith Morrison
Acting Chairman
Department of Art
Campus

Dear Keith:

I am writing this letter in the interest of Pia Swafford who
wishes to study in Oaxaca, Mexico in the coming semester.

As I understand Ms. Swafford's plan of study, she would be
working with Dr. Arthur Miller, our Latin American specialist,
on a study assignment which includes the restoration and repro-
duction of works of art that are found in the pyramids of the
region of Oaxaca, Mexico. The project has many merits to its
credit, some of which have already materialized in the scholarly
work that Dr. Miller has published. Students learn to restore
the works by studying the pigments used by the ancient artists of
the region and do scale drawings and paintings that show what the
original work looked like.

I think that the project is a broad and comprehensive one and
will add to the dimension of Pia's education in a very fine way.
I think that she is mature enough and responsiblewith her work
and could benefit from such an undertaking. I am highly supportive
of the project and recommend that Pia be allowed to pursue the
work which has been outlined under Dr. Miller's supervison.

If I can be of further service in any way, I hope that you
will feel free to call on me.

Sincerely,

DCD/c David C. Driskell
Professor of Art
