EMILE subsection 1918 Mar 19 cont
having the raid made against us on the night of
the 17th. At about 8. pm the enemy laid down a
heavy box barrage on our Support Areas, Saturday
Post and MASON'S HOUSE. The enemy were observed
as their four parties of twenty men each attempted
to raid our lines between N.8.b.50.30. and N.2.d.
45.10. They did not succeed in gaining a
footing in our Trenches. One dead German and
two prisoners of the 190th J.R. remain in our hands.
Our casualties. Lieuts. Geddes and Dougherty
slightly wounded, 2 O.R. killed and 11 O.R.
wounded, these being a result of the heavy
box barrage laid down by the enemy and
which lasted for about forty minutes. Our
snipers have been active during the tour.
Summarized. The work of the officers & men
in all departments has been very satisfactory
and there is a wide-awakeness through all
ranks that bodes ill for the Hun offensive.
Enemy's front is apparently not covered by
patrols, but by listening posts and Machine
Guns in their Trench & on ein a night post.
