Hostile retaliation to our fire has been slow in com-
mencing and weak, with the exception of the night of August
24th when our Machine Guns and Trench Mortars placed

25th and 26th. In the AVION Sector, both our Stokes
Guns and 2" Trench Mortars have fired each night on
the grounds of the RED CHATEAU SALINE TRENCH, FOSSE 4. and
N.33.c.5.7. Enemy Trench Mortars have been active
on our right front, but there has been a decrease in fire
against the ELEU Sector. With regard to our Machine
Guns, activity was above normal, both on the part of
the Vickers and Lewis guns, covering back areas and
selected targets in ANTELOPE and SLACK Trenches, the
GREEN CRASSIER, Railway Embankment and CITE DU
