Bock is the 2nd of the German fathers of Botany. He had
supplied Brunfels with material for the great H. V. Eicones 1530-3
and Brunfels had strongly urged him to write his own
book in the vernacular. His descriptions of flowers were
remarkably clear, even withoutthe benifit of
illustration. He recognized the corolla, stamens + pistils
as essential parts of many followers + he is the 1st botanist
of the 16th C to feel the neccessity for some sort of classification.
