Veldener is thought to have been the printer from whom
Caxton learned the craft, for the former is considered from
typographical evidence to have been the unnamed printer
at Cologne of the Floras S. Augustini (c 1472) on
which accordig to W. de Worde, Caxton had worked.
-the 1st printer at Louvain, whoes 1st known book
was the Belial of J. de Theramo issued in Aug. 1474.
Veldener workerd in Louvain until 1477 or 8, 2 during this
time became the 1st in the Netherlands to print a
book illust. with woodcuts. This woe the F. Temporum (1475)
of W. Rolewinck containing 9 blocks copied from the
Cologne ed. of 1474.
Haebler - Valdener was a native of Wuerzburg + certainly recieved his training
[inserted] The 10 ed. ascribed to his press at Utrecht are mainly in Dutch [end inserted] as printer in Cologne as his earliest type is closely related to those in
the style of A. ter Hoernen. In 1478 he went to Utrecht where he
remained till 1481; during these years he reached the culminating
point of his activity as a printer, which terminated in 1484 in
Kuilenberg. Veldener had great influence on the design of types
in the Netherlands.

theological + historical subjects. He was a santly as well as a
scholarly man. He died of the plague while ministering to
his brother monks so stricken.
Veldener taught Caxton the art of printing in Cologne. The
Fasciculus was printed in the same type as Caxton's Type 2 similar but isnt the same
which Veldence had cast for Caxton. This type was probably based
on a manuscript model by Colerd Mansion. Cazton 1st printed
with type 2 while at Bruges (Les Quatre Derenierus Chose, 1476)
In all 2, works of Caxton are known with this Type. the
Canterbury Tales of 1478 were printed with this type also the
1st dated book book printed in England (The Dicts or Sayenga
of the Philosophres, 18 Nov 1477) Type 2 was used until 1479.
