Dear Mr.Stefansson,

I am herewith handing you a copy of a letter I have
written to Noice in the effort to recover, if possible, the
missigg leaves from Lorne's diary and also,Milton Galle's
Diary. I have heard nothing from him in reply to my last
letter and am writing again.

I have received the copy of Ada's diary and ,while I was
more than glad to receive it, it has caused a night mare
for me because, it reveals the fact more vividly than be-
fore, thet he, a perfect specimen of physical devlopment,
lay there helpless and almost unattended and cared for al-
most not at all for those long, dreary months with no one
to care for his comfort and died the death of a man alone.

I have not the resentlment resentment in my heart for
Ada that I might easily have for, I believe that, what she
failed to do or to try to do for him,was the result more,
of her benighted intillect and supersticious imaginations
than they were the desire to neglect or mistreat him.

Then, also, the circumstances were such as to have
tried the metal of the very best and, while she may have
failed in this respect, she carried on when many an other
of more intelligence would have failed where she succeed-
ed although they might have been more kind and considerate
toward Lorne.

I am due to write a letter to all the other families
and shall do soon but have been waiting for further infor-
mation about the memorial. Such a shaft as I have in mind
can be laid down at Seattle for about $650.00.

I received a letter from Carl Akeley saying he was
sending me a copu of "Brightest Africa" inscribed to the
memorey of Lorne. I am very much pleased.

Yours very truly;

J. I .KNIGHT
