Just had wire from Chicago. Yesterday found a place for Ada at Beach after a long search - One woman told me they would take no "foreigners" in apartment - so went to a hotel best I could do was to get a rate at $9 a week for a room -

She was rather anxious to try the beach - and Bennett crazy about it - I asked her if she could eat on $1 a day and she thought she could - so I paid a weeks rent and gave her

ten dollars, and came in town 'packed her up and put her on the car for the beach so I guess she is alright

She had been to the beach several times by herself - said she gets around very well. She is at the St Marks Hotel Venice at present.

Mrs Allens mother Mrs [Mitchell] lives quite close, so I suppose it will be safe for her. The proprietor of the hotel said his wife would

be glad to do anything for her.

I only hope she doesn't meet anyone to give her bad whisky - and get her drunk, in that case I'll have to go down and bail her out! -

Suppose Miss Andrus wrote you about the "Mrs Gore" visit - I'll enclose Miss Andrus letter to me so you will have a complete file of the document of the case! Enclose also - the money expended for the trip.

Ada seems to be enjoying things here, tho I don't know how long she will want to stay - personally I think one month is enough expense for you - to undertake in the matter.

She has not talked to me of the 'strike' on Wrangel - I have been rather near it at times but since I couldnt be sure whether or not she had told that part of the story to Mr. Jordan, I didn't go ahead.

I get on with her very well, the only time that she has been silent wid with me has been following some effort by newspaper people or camera men for the papers - to get at her. in San Francisco - and as we were coming off the boat here.

She then 'retired into her self.' and it took me sometime to draw her out again.

Of course she is on my mind - especialy with such

people as Miss Andrus writes about stiring up things up there. I just hope that it is all talk.

I did not pay fifty dollars to her bank on the contract because Mr Jordan advised against it. He said with the Eskimo it was better to give all in a lump - for they understood that.

Ada asked only once about the money (500) and

I told her you would pay to her bank when you had papers from Noice she seemed satisfied.

I spoke to her about the Noice article - didnt say much because I hadn't seen it. I just asked if she had had any trouble with Noice about anything - she said - "no - she had been writing him to thanks him for saving her life - and also from for her mother, for saving her life (from Nome) and asking for her diary - but he did not answer"

After a long silence she said "well I do not know what Mr Noice can be saying about me - but what ever he does say I cant keep - but he did come and save my life" So there you are - Mr. Noice should be ashamed to attack Ada - I cannot see anything to be gained in anyway --- I am sorry that things cost so much down here and that I have not been able to make better arrangements for her but I got to the place I was ready to take anyways: - As ever P.
