open water could be seen not less than 10
miles to the S.E. of the trapping camp. Maurer
and Galle cut wood, hauled ice etc. Cold, clear, calm

N.E. breeze and -27° decided to [loot awaths]
day. Clear. For the last few days the woman
has been doing all the cooking, dishwashing and
scullery work besides sewing and mending and
doing it very well. She surely is the most incon-
sistant body I have ever known.

trapping camp intending to stay there a couple
of days, and while there to go East and examine
the harbour, and to see what trapping w
possibilities look like. Crawford and I hauled
a load of wood from the Westward and cut some
