Duck Hill 6 Sept 1866

To His Excellency B G. Humphreys
Jackson
Miss.

The annual Election for directors of the Mississippi Central Rail Board takes place in October at a time when its probable the legislature will be in session and you may not be able to attend to represent the state. Will it be asking too much of you to give to Genl. A M. West and my self the state proxie. we represented the state as proxies during Gov Clarks administration and again while Gov. Sharkey was in the office.

it is proper that I should say to you the object in applying - there is a faction at Jackson Tennessee headed as I am informed by Henry Brown, who was attorney for the company but removed and Wm H Stephens appointed in his place. also a faction at Holly Spings - on account for the work
