Our house stands back about 150 or 200 yards from the road
It faces the North - It is all on the ground floor. The old part
is built of logs, but we are siding the whole, so as to make
it look uniform. The Attics or garrets rise about two feet from
the garret floor, and their only use is that of storerooms. I
am getting a very fair bricklayer and carpenter. I can
use tools like an old hand. I can drive a pair of
spirited horses like the wind, standing up in a waggon
without springs, and dashing first on one side of the road
and then the other. Sunday. We joined Mr Bentleys
family. It was the Sunday there was no preaching, so
Uncle read the service, and a sermon and I read the
Hymns and Lessons. Several neighbours were assembled,
we numbered about 20 souls. After dinner we were
talking about Camp Meetings. Mr Murphy was telling us
about them, so I proposed to go, and Mr. B. though he said
he did not approve of such things or seences on a Sunday
said he would accompany me. I asked Aunt to go, Uncle
was feeling not exactly the thing and refused, Aunt
seemed undecided. I was determined to go. It was
only about 18 miles of a very bad road to get to it. I soon
got a party knocked up. Mr. Murphy, Aunt, Maud, Mr
