if we expect to join our cause we must
avoid as much as possible shocking people's
prejudices. we may advance study be pursuing
our present method: I do not think the
[?] rests with our organization as you
[require?] but with the material we have
to deal with by the circulation of our
pamphlets we have influenced men
and women far and near = we are
by this means educating the women of
England to appreciate the privilege of
the vote. A most important bill has been
passed this last [session?] giving women the
right to vote in municipal Elections, which
is but the forerunner of Parliamentary
Elections. America being [?] [first?] [?]
helps one Country, helps another. our
meeting in July has done good for the
women in the United States. Every step
you make in advance will benefit us
but we must be content to work differently
tho' for the same object, because of the
difference between American and English

sympathy in fact. We have thought the [few?]

intimate friends of ours - both through workers
in our cause, as is her brother Mr.
Jacob, her sister Mrs. Lucas is
one of our Executive Committee. Mrs.
Fawcett also, who is the wife of the
member for Brighton, & Mrs. Stansfeld
the wife of the Right Hon: James Stansfeld
member of the present Government. So you
see we have names of influence upon
our Committee. My time is also
much occupied by an Institute for poor
boys & girls I opened a year [since?] for
evening classes only - the pupils are chiefly
the sons & daughters of very small tradespeople
whose education has been [?] neglected and
