HEADQUARTERS OF
J.B. McPherson Post. No. 27. G.A.R.
Department of Wisconsin.
Lake Geneva, Wis., Feb. 12th., 1891.
To the Honorable the Legislature of Wisconsin,
At a special meeting of J.B. M [illegible] Post
G.A.R. held at there rooms this evening the following resolution
was unanimously adopted :-
Resolved, That we as a Post, respectfully, remonstrate
against the passage of bill No 91.S. the purpose
of which is the repeal of Chapter 339. of the Revised Statutes
of 1889, which is an act for the relief of needy soldiers,
sailors and marines, their widows and orphans, We believe
it much more honorable and patriotic to render proper aid
to these whom we have cause to hold in grateful remembrance
for their sacrifices in behalf of our common
country, than ["to" crossed out] it would be to compel them
to leave the communities where all their friends and
acquaintances are and to seek shelter in a home
or the poor-house.
By order of the Post,
Jes. H. Johnson, Commander.
[illegible] H Price, Adjutant,
