To the Hon. -

Members of the Council and House of Representatives

It having recently come to the knowledge of the inhabitants of Manitowoc County, that petition has been forwarded to your Hon. Boddy from the citizens of Brown County, praying for the counties of Manitowoc, Sheboygan & Calumet, to be reunited to Brown.

While but a few of the inhabitants of Brown County can be affected at all by a reuniting of the several counties, & those mostly officeholders, it inconvenience, in travaling to & from the county seat.

Since our organization, we have been to the expense of building county-house, of procuring the necessary books, maps & charts, requisit for county purposes - we have borne the burden without [illegible], & are now free from debt.

We would respectfully request the attention of your Hon boddy to the injustice of such an act. It will dampen the ardor of our citizens, retard the progress of our settlements while it could prove advantageous, to only a few. We the undersigned inhabitants of Manitowoc county, placing implicit confidence, in your wisdom & justice, would respectfully request that we might remain as we are, united to Brown county for Judicial purposes only.
