p. 2
To the Honorable Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin-
The undersigned inhabitants of Fond du Lac County would most respectfully represent to your Honorable bodies that they believe the effort now making by the inhabitants of Brown county to which the several counties now organized for county purposes only and have thence attached to the said county of Brown, to as to make but one separate and distinct county in the judicial district would result to our county and the counties so organized many very serious evils, and inconveniences in relation to their records and the necessary facilities in their business pursuits-
Your petitioners are desirous of remaining under their present state of organization, as they are confident no benefit can assure to the interests of our growing and flourishing county by a reunion to its original county which is encumbered with a burdensome debt contractive given the organization of our county and of which your petitioners have not in the least participated in any of the advantages or blessings arising from the incuring of such debt; and which we are now called upon to assist in liquidating-
-Your petitioners sincerely trust and believe that your honorable bodies will not sanction any such effort calling for a reunion of our county to that Brown it being in our opinion uncalled for, unnecessary and unjust-in its effect-absolutely detrimental and inconvenient to the interests and wants of the people of our county, subjecting us to the expense & inconvenience of traveling over sixty miles to transact all county or other necessary business; which necessary operations in business may call for-We believe that our present state of organization separate from the county of Brown to be more convenient and more beneficial to the interests & wants of the public, and for the most recommended to the residents of our county-And your petitioners do therefore remonstrate against uniting with the County of Brown, and also against all efforts which may be made by the petitioners of Brown county to affect a reunion of the contiguous counties as it would be liable [illegible] to our individual interests and prosper
