To the Hon. the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin

The petition of Rebecca P. Farrington of Platteville Grant County Wisconsin Territory Respectfully showeth That she was married on the 27th day of December 1827 to Alexander C. Farrington then a man whose moral character stood high in the County of Oneida in the state of New York That in the year 1829 they removed to Danville Vermont where the said Farrington became engaged in some swindling operations and was imprisoned. Your petitioner returned to her father the Revd. David Kendall in the state of New York in October 1832 and has resided with him till the fall of 1841 since which she has lived in Platteville that she has never lived with him since, and believes that he has not went by his real name since he escaped from prison in Vermont, until he came to Galliopolis in Ohio where he engaged in the frauds which incarcerated him in the Ohio penitentiary your petitioner will further state that she was informed and believes that he was engaged in keeping a house of ill fame in the city of New York under an assumed name. These facts your petitioner is aware would entitle her to a divorce by law, but the evidence of them are at so great a distance from her residence, and being unacquainted with persons who reside in the neighborhood of where the evidence could be collected, would compel her to employ an agent to collect it, and being poor is unable to meet the expence of collecting the testimony. The fact of his being in the Ohio penitentiary is a newspaper report which all believe but now could swear to in Ohio Country. Your petitioner would therefore pray your Hon body to Grant her a divorce from the said Silas C. Farrington and as in duty bound will &c.
