Benton, Wis, Jany 17 1872
To the Honorable, the Senate and Assembly of the State of Wisconsin.
The undersigned, residents of the town of Benton, in La Fayette County, respectfully submit to your favorable consideration the annexed law, called in Illinois "Reddick's Temperance act," and which has just passed the Senate and assembly there by handsome majorities, and is awaiting the approval of the governor, to become the law of that State : and pray that with such modifications as will adapt it to our System of law it may be adopted as the law of Wisconsin. We do not so petition as members of any particular temperance society but a friends of Society and good order, independently of political considerations as affecting mere party, and as in duty bound your petitioners will ever pray.
