Petition of the inhabitants of Delevan praying the passage of a law allowing that town the privilege of decidign by vote whether licenses shall be granted to sell ardent spirits by other whether licenses shall be granted to sale or - aunt spirits

To the Hon, the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of N. Wiskonsane

The undersigned citizens and elctors of the town of Delavane I or shch as will be electors at the next gneeral election would respectrully pray your Hon. body to pass such a law as will enable the Citizens of ths town at their annual towne meetings to determine whether licenses for the sale fo Strong or Spirituass liquors and wine, in the town Shall or Shall not be granted

Believing that all political power is inherent in the people and that deleagtide poser shoudl be exercised only in cases where it is impractable for the peopel to assemble to transact their own business, and that it is republican and safe for the people to adopt their own municipal regulations,

Therefore your petitioners pray your Hon. body to pass the law above mentioned and to repeal so much of the existing laws as may conflict there with, and as in dugy bound &c. Yc. Delavane Walworth CoW.I. Jan 8th 1842
