To the Honorable the House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin
The petion of the undersigned respectfully sheweth, that on the day of [blank space] 1836 an act was passed by your honorable body incorporating R. McPherson. David Jones. B. L. Webb and their associates togeter with the members of teh Wisconsin Shot Company as a body corporate under the name and style of the "Wisconsin Mineral & Transportation Company," that at that time said associ= -ation held certain lands in said Territory which it was understood to be the intention of being held unde rthe said act of incorporation, that the said act expresses that the Capital stock of said incoproation should be $100,000 and provides that the lands then owned by said association "should not be "taken" (meaning as was supposed considered) as a part of said Capital," That the undersigned when the act passed were under the opinion that those lands then owned by them were to be held under the Charter Exclusive of the amount of the capital stock therein named. That it was their intention to engage extensively in manufactures & transporation and other personal transactions which would require the whole amount of said Capital apart from the lands so owned; but doubts being since entertained that the act would only ebrace $100,000 aone which was too mall an amount to enable them to poperate to advantage. The Company have limited their operation to an extent altogether inconsistent with their watns and the benefit of the community.
We therefore respectfully solicit your honorable body to pass an act allowing the said Company to hold the lands then held by them together with the amount of capital (to be employed or designated in the charter) of $100,000 Dollars to be employed in the personal property and other transactions of the company apart from the aforesaid real estate so held under the said Charter, to enable them to dispose of their real Estate then held and to invest the amount thereof in the business of said Company aforementioned.
