Petition for allowing the voters of Lafayette County to select the county seat

To the Honorable the Council and House of Represenatatives of the Territory of Wisconsin

Your Petitioners citizens of the [strikethrough] County of Lafayette Respectfully requests your Honorabel body to Enact a law authorizing the legal voters of said county to vote on the second Monday in May next for the location of the County seat of their County by Ballot the place receiving a majority of all the votes to be the permanent County seat of said county - And if no place should be so slected on teh first ballot then that the same shall be balloted for at each annual Election therafter untill a county seat shall be located by a majority of the legal votes of the county polled at the Last Election. And your Petitioners would earnestly remonstrate against any the last dismemberment of the present County of Lafayette
