Sir:
If the southsiders only knew how much me and my sick wife needlessly
have suffered from the stupid Negroes, then they wouldn't even spit on
these people much less want them on the south side. The bulk of the
trouble the blacks have caused us might easily have been prevented had
we received adequate police protection. Most of the harrowing exper-
iences could have been avoided had the police helped us while we were
in distress for several years. Complaining to the cops about the
colored culprits was like talking to the wall. The same thing is going
on in Chicago, particularly in the Fillmore section. So far as ignorance
is concerned we all, of course, are ignorant on different subjects, but
when ignorance is compounded by indecency, immorality and stupidity, then
it is an entirely different thing. We ourselves despise these people
not for their ignorance per se but for their indecency, immorality and
stupidity for one can be ignorant and still be decent. Ignorance, you
know, is lack of knowledge, not lack of character. The color or their
skin, if they are decent and moral, certainly is of no consequence.
Furthermore, prejudice is [a] two-pronged problem. We ourselves had wanted
to live in harmony instead of hatred, but these indecent fools would not
let us. They damaged our health and drove us out of our business. Was
this not bigotry or does this term only apply to we white citizens?
Of course, the NAACP in this city now claims that "slavery" is the
cause of Negro crime nd [and] illegitimacy; that we white people have "cond-
itioned" the colored people to a life of crime and illegitim cy [illegitimacy]! My,
what a cute and cozy excuse! However, in the absence of valid reasons
the "leaders" are wont to come up with such asinine alibis. The "slavery"
stuff is highly ludicrous, of course and only a nitwit would fall for it.
Knowing the gre t [great] gullibility of the public the papers continue to feed
it such fiction. Hardly a day goes by that the journal does not publish
such stupid Negro propaganda as the "slavery" baloney. Well, to "buy"
it, you'd need a big hole in the head. The ever increasing Negro illeg-
itim cy [illegitimacy] r te [rate] re lly [really] is n [an] wful [awful] disgr ce [disgrace]. Even [a] jackass knows that it
too has got nothing whatever to do with "slavery." Even [a] dolt would
know that. This was a "hayseed" excuse strictly for the "squares."
The sluts who have the I2 illegitim te [illegitimate] kids definitely do not have them
due to the slavery of their ancestors a great many years ago, do they?
By virtue of what? Osmosis?
