Suborbicular, elevated, thin, ventricose, smooth, not oblique; beaks medial; hinge margins very oblique; posterior margin truncated direct, very regularly rounded towards the base; anterior basal margin obliquely truncated; cardinal plate thin, arched, with an elongated channel anteriorly; cardinal teeth profoundly diverging.

Genus Lucina Bruguieres DeKay, Nat Hist N.Y. p. 214

Shell rounded; beaks small, pointed, oblique; two diverging cardinal teeth, one of which is bifid; occasionally two distinct cardinal teeth in each valve; palleal impression without a sinus; ligament posterior and elongate.

Name of a goddess.

Ovate, ventricose, with prominent concentric lines, and remote, profound concentric sulci; summits very elevated, medial; posterior margin truncated, direct; posterior side with an indistinct submarginal fold; cardinal and lateral teeth distinct; inner margin crenulated. A variable species; some have a distinct fold, others none; sulci vary in numbers, generally two to five; occasionally traces of radiating lines are visible under a glass, which are most distinct on the margin of the sutures. L. 0.3 -- H 0.35
