Genus Bison

As in Bos, the horn=cores are on a level with the orbits behind, but they come off an inch or more in advance of the inion ; the forehead is broad, quadrate and slightly convex ; it has no trace of lacrymal fossae.

Forehead arched, broader than high ; horns attached two inches before the line formed by the union of the facial and occipital surfaces, which latter form an obtuse angle; the plane of the occipiit represents a semi= circle

Horns 28 inches in circunference [circumference] at the base. Breadth of forehead, between the bases of the horns 15 inches.

The skull resembles the Aurocch (Bos urus)

Bison antiquus, Leidy, Proc. Ac. Nat Sc. Vol 6 p 117

Founded upon a portion of the horn = core with a small fragment of the os frontis attached, indicating an animal intermediate in size to the recent Bison Americanus & the B. latifrons. The ^horn = core is more abruptly conoidal, and relatively more curved than in the latter.

Cir. of horn = core at base 14.5
