At Snake R. (on the St. Croix) a trading port in 1832 (301 souls).

At Yellow River Indians (380 souls.

Forks of the St. Croix &c. &c.

Chippewa[y]-Scattered over large area-not fixed.

Winnebagos north of the Wisconsin. Above them Sioux.

2000 Chippeway met in council in parties at villages.

They were invited to join Black Hawk, but did not.

Winnebagos resided at Lake an [Prants?] (Winnebago Lake) in 1816-a bold & warlike tribe.

Menomonees 18[?]6 at Green Bay a small tribe. Tomah, their Chief. Also in 1832.

Techmseh visited G. Bay to induce Menomonees &c. to join his combination against the Americes (1810 or 11) (1 p 53) He was unsuccessful.

Oneidas 1822.

Indian treaty at Butte des Morts. August 18[?]7.

Both ends of L. Winnebago in 1816 occupied by W. Indians (1 p. 177[6] Stockbridges-from N. York. Brothertowns Oneidas

Bands of Indians resided in the region of Lac Courtenelle? or Ottawa Lake, Lac Chetae &c. in 1832-Lac du Flambeau &c. on the upper St. Croix &c.

Lake Superior, at La Pointe supposed to have been the ancient council fire of the Ojibways.

A treaty at Fon du Lac in 1826.

Scattered parties of Ojibways at many other points.

Western part of the state formerly the disputed territory below the Marike [Warleke?] Sioux & Chippewa- who like the British & French were always at war.

Fox river of Green Bay is named after the Fox Indians, who were [driven?] to the Wisconsin.

Indian complaints on account of dishonest trades are of ancient date for in August 1762 a party went from Milwaukee [Milwacky] to the British Commander at Green Bay with one.

Milwaukee is supposed to have been occupied at various times by: Winnebago, Ottawas (in 1762), Menomonees.

Sioux visited Green Bay in 1762.

Contest between G. Bay and Mackina as to which showed trade with the Milwacky Indians 1672 (I p 37)

The Ottawas once occupied the central portions of the state (I. p. 114)
