Portage County.

Bounded north by Marathon; east by Waupaca; south by Waushara, Juneau and Adams; and west by Jackson and Clark. It embraces the townships numbered twenty one to twenty five in ranges two to ten east of the Meridian; the form is regular, length fifty four miles; breadth thirty miles; area forty five townships or sixteen hundred and twenty square miles. Portage county was set off from Brown in 1836, but not fully organized until 1844.
