Bounded on the north by Iowa; east by Green; south by Illinois; and west by Grant. It includes townships one, two, three, and the south half of four, in ranges one to five east f the Meridian; and is therefore thirty miles long, twenty one broad, and has an area of six hundred and thirty square miles. This county was separated from Iowa and fully organized in 1847. The population in 1847 was 9,335
