Robinia Pseudocacia, Linn, Locust.

Introduced in 1837 by Dr. WmP Proudfit of Milwaukee. Given up on account of attack of an insect called the borer. A very useful kind of wood for fence posts, fire wood, &c.

Robinia viscosa Vert. Clammy Locust. Introduced. Scarcely worth growing.

Sophora Japomica. A fine tree, flowers white; leaves deep green, pinnated. In. 1834. Giffird.

Cercis Canadensis Linn. Red Bud.
Introduced in 1854 by Mr. Charles Gifford but lost, not being adapted to the peculiar conditions of soil & climate at Milwaukee.

Gymnocladus Canadensis Lam. Kentucky Coffee Tree. Introduced in 1856 by Ch. Gifford. Hardy.

Gleditschia triacanthos Linn. Honey Locust. Introduced in 1837.
by Dr. WmP Proudfit, but not found hardy. A fine ornamental tree, native at Beloit & Pr. du Chien.
