State Historical Society.

By reference to the proceedings in another col-
umn, it will be seen that a State Historical So-
ciety has been formed. The utility and interest
of such a society cannot be questioned. There
are many facts that may be gathered of the early
history of Wisconsin, of vast interest to pre-
serve; and which will form valuable items for
the future historian. No better method of ef-
fecting this can be adopted than in the formation
of such societies; and we trust the people of
the state will interest themselves in furnishing
the society with such data and facts relative to
our early history as shall come within their
reach.
