[26] 25 Scipus Planifolius Muhlenberg.

Culms triangular, leafy at the base; leaves flat, linear, about as long as the culm, rough on the edges and keel; spikes oblong, flattened, 5 to 7 flowered; scales keeled, cuspidate, the lowest about the length of the spike; bristles 4 to 6 upwardly hairy as long as the blunt triangular achenium. Culms 5 to 10 inches high, growing in loose tufts, Flowers in June.

In woods and bogs. Michigan. Extends east to the N. England states, and south to Kentucky.
