Syn. C striatula Michx. C. conoidea Muhl.
(not of Schk.)

Staminate spike single erect, pedunculate,
short; fertile spikes 2 to 4, oblong densely flowered,
the upper nearly sessile, the others remote, long
peduncled; perigynia obovate, nerved, obtusely
triangular, narrowed at each end, about
the length of the scale. Culms 12 to 18
inches high; leaves linear; bracts leafy,
longer than the culm. Flowers in May.
Dry woods and meadows.

Milwaukee to La Crosse in Wisconsin.
Illinois, Ohio. Extends from Texas to
the Arctic regions, and eastward to N. York.
