91 Carex festucacea, Schkur.

Spikes 5 to 8, the lower distinct, obovoid,
or club-shaped, with small bracts; perigynia
ovate, diverging, narrowly winged, with a
short beak, compressed, ciliate-serrate; scale
ovate-lanceolate, mucronate, three fourths the
length of the perigynium, achenium sessile
broadly oval. Culms about two feet
high; flowers in May.

Wisconsin, Illinois, Southern Indiana,
Michigan. Found as far north
as the Arctic regions, and south as Florida.
