C. cephalophora, var. maxima Dewey.

Heads of 8 to 10 ovate-oblong dense spikes; perigynia
compressed, very obscurely nerved, ovate from a
broad, truncate base, a little longer than the conjugate
scale; achenium pyriform; base of the style
not tumid. Culm 2 to 4 feet high.
Grows in woods & on dry ground.

Michigan; expending east to Western
New York
