Syn.

Spikes, numerous decompound or paniculate, forming a long head;
perigynia obovate, black trigultrous, nerved sessile, beak
short and abrupt; scale ovate, acuminate
equalling the perigynia

Culm - two to three feet high, flowers in
swamps.

Illinois, Ohio and Michigan. It has been found
as far south as Louisiana, and eastward to N. York
