Spikes 6 to 14, globore, senile crowded into
a head; perigynia ovate=oblong, striate, winged,
very rough on the magin, spreading; scale
ovate=oblong, acute about two thirds the length
of the [fruit] perigynia; achenium narrowly
oval, on a short stalk, crowned by the persistent style. Culm one
to three feet high. Flowers in June.
Wet grounds [xc?].

Beloit, Wisconsin; Ohio;
+Michigan. Found in the
arctic region of N. America.
