111 Carex granularis, Muhlenberg.

Sterile spike solitary, sessile; fertile spikes
2 to 4 cylindrical, oblong, dense-flowered, nearly
erect, sometimes with one or more short branches
at the base; perigynia roundish-ovate, nerved, very
short-beaked, and round, [crossed out] longer than
the ovate-acuminate scale; bracts exceeding the
culm. Culm 12 to 18 inches high; flowers
in May. Wet places.--
