Syn. c. vitilis Fries. C. sphoerostachya Dewey.

Spikes 3 to 6, ovate, sub-globose, the three
upper closely approximatesd, the lowermost remote, about
six flowers, bracteate; perigynia ovate-oblong,
lanceolate, or tapering-rostrate, longer than the
ovate scale, not becoming tawny.

Culms about one foot high, slender
flaccid, leafy toward the base.

Ohio; Michigan. Also found in the
Arctic regions.
