Spikes numerous, united into an elongated
head; perigynia ovate, tapering into a beak, sub-sca
on the margin, striated, but little longer than the scale;
achenium oval; style tumic; scale ovate, acute.
Culms 3 to 4 feet high

Illinois & Ohio. A native also of
Europe, where it is quite common.
