Syn. C. multiflora Muhl. C. bracteosa Schw.
C. polymorpha Schw. (not of Muhl.) c. setacea Dewey.
C. microsperma, Wahl.

Spikes decompound, or arranged in oblong
clusters; perigynia ovate, acuminate, bifid, scalrous
on the margin, with a broad base, diverging at
maturity; scales ovate, awned, tawny, shorter than the
perigynia. Culm 18 inches to 2 feet high;
flowers in May. About wet places.

Wisconsin, Illinois, Southern Indiana, Ohio and
Michigan. The geographical range of this
species is from Florida to the arctic
region.
