Coleoptera Genera
Rhagrium, Fab. Feelers 4 capitate; jaw single toothed; lip membranaceous, & bifid;
antennae setaceous, elongated, approximate, inserted between the eys (eyes?) ; eys (eyes?) rounded;
thorax narrow, cylindrical & spinous each side; elytra rigid; feet 4 jointed
legs formed for running
Saperda, Fab. Feelers 4 filiform, jaw membranaceous & bifid; lip heart shaped
& truncate; antennae setaceous. Eyes lunate, embracing base of antennae; thorax
short somewhat cylindricus & unarmed; head retracted; clytra rigid, length
of abdomen; body elongated cylindrical & emarginate.
Clytus Fab. Antennae setaceous; eyes veniform, embracing base of antennae; thorax
globose, and broad as the elytia; elytia rigid, length of the abdomen; legs long
formed for walking; thighs compressed; feet 4 jointed.
(From Says Am. Eulomology)
Cicindela - Antennae filiform; clypeiis shorter than the labrum; maxilla monodactyle
with two very distinct palpi, of which the latter hairy; mentum trifid, the
divisions nearly equal in length; feet slender, elongated; anterior tibia -
without a sinus near the tip - Page 9, 17, 21, 30, 32, 40 for species
Scarabaeus, Lin. Lat. Antennae ten jointed, the club composed of oblong oval
lamellae, which have an almost common insertion; body ovoid, convex;
mandibles with their external edges crenulated; maxillae cornlus,
dentated; labrum entirely concealed; palpi filiform. (Geotrufies Fab.)
Pages, 26,40, 41, 42
Blaps - Mentum small, or moderately large; quadrate or orbicular; palpi terminated
by a larger joint; terminal joint of the maxillary palpi securiform;
mandibles naked at their base; clypeus terminated by a straight
line; labum transverse; antennae moniliform at tip, 3rd joint much
longer than the fourth; back flat; thorax almost quadrate; elytra
acute at tip - page 18.
Anthicus, Fab. (Melae, L. Notoxus, Geoff. Lytta, Marsham) Antennae with conic joints
2nd & 3rd nearly equal, terminal one ovate oblong; labial palpi terminated
by a small truncate joint; thorax subcordiate, often strangulated near
the middle; penultimate tarsal joints bilobate; nails simple. P. 42
Lytta Fab (Meloe Lin. Cantharis Geoff. Lat vc) Tarsi entire; nails bifid; head not produced
into a rostrum; elytra flexible covering the whole abdomen, linear, semi=
=cybindric; wings perfect; maxilla with two membranbaceous laciniae, the external
one acute within, subuncinate; antennae longer than the head & thorax,
rectilinear; first joint longest, 2nd transverse, very short; maxillary palpi
larger at tip - p 20
Nemognatha Illiger (Meloe L. Tonitis Fab) Antennae longer than the thorax, with the
1st & 3rd joints nearly equal, the 2nd a little shorter, terminal one fusiform, abruptly
terminated by a short point; palpi filiform; maxillae very much elongated, filiform
curved; elytra elongate linear; tarsi with entire joints - 17, 20, 33
Calandra - Claira (Curculis Lin) Body elliptic, oval, above somewhat depressed; eyes
immersed, oblong, encircling the head beneath; antennae geniculated inserted
at the base of the rostrum; rostrum dilated at the insertion of the antennae;
elytra plaiv not covering the anus above; anus acutely prominent;
tarsi reflected to the inner side of the tibia. P. 9, 26, 42
Dicaelus - Bonelli - Mandibles destitute of an articulated nail at tip; palpi six,
terminal joint, obconic, truncated; anterior tibia emarginate, two anterior tarsi
dilated in the male, and furnished beneath with dense granuliform
papillae, antennae filiform; labrum emarginated, and with a longitudinal
