II - 4 - 6 Cantharidae. Hooks deeply cleft; head large wider & rounded posteriorly; thorax narrowed behind; elytra frequently inclined laterally.

III - 4 - 1 Prionii. Labrum none; mandibles stoute; internal lobe of maxillae none; antennae inserted near base of mandibles, surrounded by eyes at base; thorax crenate or dentate laterally.
