Dr. Lapham's New Geological Map.-We take the following in relation to the new and valuable geological map recently published by Dr. Lapham, from a recent number of the Kilbourn City Mirror:

Valuable Map.-Dr. I.A. Lapham, of Miwaukee, has supplied a need of the state by furnishing it was a geological map. Dr. Lapham, by his long experience in map making, by his thorough geological knowledge, and by his personal application and travels, was probably better qualified than any other man to produce an accurate geological map of the state of Wisconsin. And such, we believe, he has produced. It is divided into townships, and shows the rivers, cities, villages, railroads, and nearly everything that common maps show, so that it may be used for all the ordinary purposes of maps, and in addition it shows, by different colorings, where the limestone, sandstone, shale, granite, trapean and other rocks are, and shows also the depth at which artesian wells would reach the primary rock in different parts of the state. It will doubtless have an extensive sale."

I.A. Lapham's Geological Map of Wisconsin.

This map, jus tissued, is twenty-two by twenty-eight inches, projected on a scale of fifteen miles to an inch. Besides answering all the purposes of an ordinary map of the State, showing the Counties, Cities, Villages, Rivers, Lakes, etc., it shows the several rock formations beneath the soil, whether granite, sandstgone, limestone, etc. These are shown by different colors handsomly printed, on good, thick paper, by the chromo-lithographic process-all the work of Milwaukee artists. By a system of curved lines and figures it shows the probable depth, below the level of Lake Michigan, at which the granite rocks, upon which all the others rest, may be reached by Artesian Wells. This is a very important feature, now for the first time attempted in this country. Teachers will find it a convenient map for reference in explaining the principles of geology. Students should consult it and thus become familiar with what may be seen at home and thus be better able to comprehend what is recorded in their books. Land owners and speculators will be able to find whether their possessions are besed upon the solid granite, the life giving limestone, or whether founded upon sand. It wil prevent the useless expenditure of money in the search for Coal, Salt, Oil, etc., by showing the absence of the rocks usually bearing these products. It will give intelligent direction to persons looking for Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron, Lead, Zinc, etc., as well as for building stone, roofing slates, etc. It would be very useful to send to friends in the old country, and thus spread a knowledge of our State and its advantages among those who may be looking for a new home.

H.W. Anger, Of Milwaukee, is the duly authorized agent for the sale of the map. Price, Single Copy,................$3.00 Milwaukee Sentinel Print.
