Stem 6 1/2 inches in circumferences; much flattened;
furrows distinct, reticulated, 1/6 of an inch wide, jointed ["jointed" crossed out], finely & beautifully striated ["by slight transverse ridge" crossed out]; ribs ["& slight transverse" crossed out] with a series of mammillae
tubercles, ^& slight transverse ridge at regular distances; scars close, corresponding
with the tubercles & ridges ["ridges" crossed out] ribs on the stem, hexagonal, the
[pen sketch to the right] upper & lower side longest subtended by obtuse
angles; vascular impressions not seen.
Each column of scales ["scales" crossed out] scars separated by a slightly
elevated ridge; middle of the scale ["scale" crossed out] scars deepened.
[leaves very long, linear, keeled, many = nerved; nerves parallel,
equal, thin, obsolete]
