[Left page] This mound is one of a group There are several groups in that neighborhood. The ground in the immediate vicinity is quite level but in the neighborhood is rolling There is a small mound not represented in this sketch which should be in the original [illegible] by [Me?]. It is 10 links in diameter (a very true circle) 6 to 10 inches high and located under the left wing as I have marked on your diagram. This small mound subjects to [Me?] that might have been represented suspended from the bill of the bird by a chord The Bird conveying a message. - Wm H Caufield

High hill great many mounds

Brest work

Brest work

Buffalo mounds

Snake mound

Great many large mounds

On this high ground I counted over 100 small mounds monuments etc

More small mounds on this ridge than on the other, but not so distant

long & circular monuments

From here all the 1-2-3 & 5th Lakes can be seen

appearance of many low flat broad monuments

There are many white oak trees 7 to 9 ft circumference standing on the tops of the mounds & monuments

The washing of the hills has evidently erased many of the mounds
