Dr Sir
Your favor of the 21st inst is at hand & check enclosed 10.10 placed to your cr.
The second lots of salmon eggs are not hatching as well as the first but still are doing pretty well.
Your Truly
H. F. Dousman
Letter from Spencer Baird to Increase Allen Lapham, March 25th
29.648
Washington, March 25, 1873.
My Dear Dr Lapham
I duly received, through Mr Milner your Bill of charges connected with the salmon eggs, & I now enclose vouchers, which please sign & return & I will then immediately forward the money.
Mr. Dousman writes me that an appropriation of $500 has been made by the Legislature of Wisconsin, to be expended under my direction. If this be the case how am I to collect the money & what is it proposed that I shall do with it.
Should not this Bill legitimately come out of that fund? I am perfectly willing to pay it, though of course if there is an appropriation from the State, it can be taken from that.
Very truly yours,
Spencer F. Baird

Dr Sir
I am quite surprised at the amount of work you have accomplished in so short a time, relating to the Geology and Natural History of Minnesota, as shown in your First Annual Report, just received.
As a slight return for this favor you have conferred upon me by sending your first Annual Report I send you ^a copy of my Geological Map of Wisconsin &^ a MS Catalogue of the Plants of Minnesota prepared by me many years ago, which may still be of use.
You will be glad to learn that Wisconsin has authorized a ^a very thorough^ Geological Survey, which will, doubtless be commenced as soon as the proper season opens.
Yours truly
I. A. Lapham
