My MS is all complete &
the great bulk of it is in the hands
of the printer. I am [restricted?] by
my publisher to 400 [pp?]. I have
72 illustrations & the only way
that I have been able to accom-
plish this without probable loss
to him is by an arrangement [illegible]
[illegible] by which I pay 1/2 of
the cost of the figures of [illegible]
in the last [illegible] of the [illegible]-
alist, & with [illegible] by which he
agreed to appropriate $60 to the illus-
tration of my skull paper & let
me have electrolytes at cost. I had in
the originals among others, your skull
or Dr Hoy's 1/4 & besides several other
mound buildings skulls, which I
was compelled to discard, to

I have corrected about 25 pp of
proof & find that [2 1/4?] p of my MS
= 1 page of print - [illegible] is more than
I calculated [illegible] & I must go
