I could not find the
sandstone under quartzite but
I begin to think it may exist.
I found a fragment that has sand-
stone @ both ends and the middle
composed of the most compact
white quartz [illustration]

In regard to another question
- the proximity of limestone to the
quartz of the narrows - I
tramped Southeasterly over a mile of sandstone
between the two

The limestone at that point
marked lime kiln on the map is a remarkable intruder. It occurs at the top of a ledge above sandstone,
but 1/4 mile further east the sand-
stone rises some 200 feet above it

Pine Bluff

[Right Page]

The top of this limestone
is planed off beautifully smooth
& marked with glacial scratches
running nearly E & W. It looks
as if the iceberg's thought, as I do,
that it had no business there
and were trying hard to dig it
out. The portion left is about
15 ft thick.

I will write again if
any interesting dicovery is made.

Please remember me to
the members of your family.
I shall not forget my visit
at your home, & shall be most
happy to have it returned by all
of you.

Yours truly
