My dear Sir

Many thanks for
the fine specimens of
Alburnus acutus also specimens of scales just ar-
rived in good condition.
I find them to be a
true Alburnus, so that
the criticism of Mr.
Cope, P.A.N.S. Philad. [Philadelphia] 1864
p. 281, referring it to
Squalius is entirely er-
roneous, wide of the
mark & unnecessary.

However I don't find
the "remarkable contraction
above the upper lip" re-
ferred to in your descrip-
tion (Ann. Sci. I. p. 101)
Was that a sexual dif. [difference]
