Dear Dr Lapham

Many thanks for the second batch of conifers! Your "[Austrian?] Pine" is Pinus sylvestris I enclose a few leaves of the real P. [Austrian?] or Black Pine, a form of P. Laricio as it appears (great confusion ever among European Pines)

Most interesting and valuable was the [illegible] which I had not obtained elsewhere L. Am. I had found [illegible] here - both agree as to authors (mostly described in my paper) and as to pollen, which is oval, entire, not [illegible] as in other pines.

A C. [Canadensus?] has a most abnormal pollen if I can rely on poor specimens. Could you get [illegible] fl. from your north Corresp.? I know that it grows in the north

I A Lapham Esq Milwaukee

Dear Sir

Your valued favor of the 6th with enclosed [circular?] [illegible] "[l. Adn?] reply will day." Our time is so employed that we can give no personal attention to getting specimens for your department [at the?] coming Fair in your city - which we much regret. But I will enclose you check for One Hundred Dollars as our [illegible]. Our calls for the Sanitary Fair here are [larger?] and we feel it a pleasure to do all we can in a good cause both Home & abroad.

Yours Respectfully H O Armour & Co

Dr Sir

Hon M M Strong [Moses M Strong] informs me that Mr Wm [William] [Y?] Henry of Mineral Point has some of the best specimens of lead ore in the state. Weighing from five to eight hundred lbs and that he has sginified his willingness to send some to the fair. Mr. Strong suggests that you write Mr. Henry lest he forget it

yours truly
