Saturday April 25th
Mr. B. Sayre with his son William returned from Ohio. He is one of the contractors for the masonry on the canal and will attend to the construction of the bridge. Mr. A.S. Phelps a young man, Hr. Henry's friend from Rochester N.Y. arrived here today, also. I finished the Exchange. River quite high even so as to interrupt the work.

The river ceased rising today and is now expected to fall soon. I worked on the canal both in the forenoon & afternoon. Mr. Berthoud the post master of this place had been absent about a week last Saturday during which time there was no mail arrived here - When it did come I got the April No. of Sill. Jour. and a letter...
