April 15th Wednesday
I worked on the rain nearly all the time today. At evening I got a letter from Pazzi Lapham at Cincinnati: He is not entirely out of employment but only engaged temporarily in the office he is now in. Quite a heavy frost last night.
April 16th
I worked most of the time for the canal; measured a level of cypress timber in the forenoon and in the afternoon I assisted in taking some levels at the bridge - Weather rather smoky.

April 17 1829
Went up the canal in the forenoon and done some work and then assisted in making the estimates &c. In the afternoon I borrowed Walt Brun's Geography and read some in it. The river yet continues very high about 3 feet above the bottom of the guardlock.
April 18th
As there was no work requiring to be done today, I drew another plan for the exchange in Louisville. A premium of...
