Simple Earths
There are nine earths [vis?] silica
alumina, zirconia, glucina, yttria
barytes, lime, and magnesia,
Silica white, inodorous, insipid,
insoluble in water and every acid
except the fluoric and [infusible?]
feels gritty between the teeth,
Humina or pure Clay soft to the touch
adhesive to the tongue; emits a
peculiar odor when moistened.
White will [dilute?] with most acids
Lorcon glucina yttria
are so scarce or scarcely to be
mostly of notice here They are
all white and unite with most acids.

Mineral Spring
While excavating the earth in
the [Louisrill?] of Portland Canal
about 9 feet above the rock a
spring was discovered which
had a peculiar taste and bubbles
of an inflammable gas was now and then
raising through it. This gas was flammable
by the decaying evitable matter
which is found in the [allurial?]
for when they came to the rock
this gas disappeared was not seen; but the
spring still had it peculiar taste
which was ascribed to different
ingrediances [ingrediants] by different persons
I have mad [made] the following experiments
Experiment 1. Structure of [galls?] immedi
ately changes it purple and then
black.
Nitrate of Silver produces an
immediate sohite cloud and
precipitate.
